elder DR. CLIFTON E. HARRIS, JR

PRESIDING ELDER OF THE MIGHTY DURHAM DISTRICT 7TH EPISCOPAL DISTRICT

Elder Clifton E. Harris, Jr., the son of the late Rev. Clifton & Mamie Sue Harris, Sr., was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He is the husband of Dottie Deneatha Twitty Harris and the proud father of 2 children and grandfather of 3.

 He graduated from Greenville Senior High School and graduated from ITC Extension Seminary. Elder Harris received his honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Apex School of Theology in May 2016.

 After serving in the U.S. Army, Elder Harris received his call to preach in December 1979 at Israel Metropolitan CME Church where he received his local preacher’s license in January 1980. He was later ordained a deacon in July 1982; an Elder in July 1984 and then admitted into Full Connection in 1985. Elder Harris was appointed Presiding Elder by Bishop James B. Walker, Presiding Prelate of the 7th Episcopal District on July 29, 2015.

 Elder Harris served as Pastor at the following: People’s Temple, Rutherfordton, NC; Bethel, Cowpens, SC; Forest Chapel, Spartanburg, SC; Piney Ridge, Union Mills, NC; Allen Temple, Gaffney, SC, Logan Chapel, Charlotte, NC; Vanderhorst Memorial, Charleston, SC; Bunton Institutional, Spartanburg, SC; Prince Chapel, New Hill, NC and currently serves as Pastor of Faith CME Church, Charlotte, NC.
